Tails and Cosmo
It was about 11:00 AM. Sonic and Tails sat on the floor of Tails' living room playing some video games when suddenly an alarm went off.
"What's that all about?" Sonic asked, dropping the controller and covering his ears.
"Eggman," said Tails, also covering his ears. He stood up and pressed a button on the side of the screen. The image changed to static but then the Doctor faded into view.
"Now what do you want?" Sonic demanded, crossing his arms.
"I just want your help with a new creation of mine," Dr. Eggman stated excitedly. "Would you be so kind as to meet me at the canyon in say...a few seconds?"
"You want me to wreck one of your bots? I'm there!"
"Excellent!" The screen faded back to static.
Sonic stood up and stretched. "Alright, catch ya later Tails!"
"Sonic. You aren't seriously about to run straight into this trap, right? It's clearly a trap! This is Eggman we're talking about here!"
"Don't worry so much Tails. I'm the main character, there's no way he can win!"
Tails frowned. "And you don't have a problem abusing the fourth wall like that?"
Sonic paused to think about this for a second, then gave his answer: "Nope!" And with that, he disappeared in a flash of blue.
Tails chuckled and shook his head. "They almost seemed happy to see each other," he said to himself. Realizing he now had nothing to do, Tails called Cosmo to see if she wanted to hang out. Vanilla answered the phone and handed it to Cosmo.
"Hi Tails!" she said cheerfully.
"Hi Cos... is someone crying?" Tails asked, picking up the sound of faint sobbing in the background.
"It's Cream. Cheese seems to have disappeared while she was asleep," Cosmo said with a worried tone.
"That's awful! Is there anything I can do to help?" he asked.
"I'm sure she'd love all the help she can get...hold on a second."
Tails waited patiently and tried to pick up on the conversation in the background but then Cosmo came back on the line. "Nevermind," she said. "They're going to get the help of the Chaotix."
"Oh, yeah I'd rather not try to work with them again," laughed Tails. "So...does that mean you're free?"
"I suppose so," Cosmo replied, blushing.
"Great! Want to meet at the falls for a picnic?" he inquired.
"I'd love to! I've never been there," she said.
"Oh, well then maybe I should just come pick you up."
"I guess that would make sense. Alright, I'll start getting lunch ready."
"Ok, I'll be there in about half an hour."
"Cool, see you then. Love you."
"Love you too, bye."
Tails jogged to the hangar, humming a cheerful tune to himself. He fueled up the X Tornado and hopped in. After a short five minutes of flight, he slowed the aircraft to a hover and gently set it down on the dirt road leading up to Cream and Vanilla's house. He hopped out and walked to the door but right as he raised his hand to knock, the door opened and Cosmo rushed outside, bumping into him. Because of the weight of the picnic basket, she lost her balance and they tumbled to the ground.
Cosmo opened her eye's and saw that she was laying on top of Tails, who was blushing deeply. "Hey..." she said breathlessly, batting her eyelashes.
"...Hi..." Tails replied. He wanted to say more but he felt hypnotized by the beauty of Cosmo's eyes. Also it was a little hard to breathe with her on top of him.
She rolled off and Tails quickly sprang to his feet so he could help her up. "Sorry about that," Cosmo said, rather embarrassed.
"It's cool," Tails chuckled. "Something tells me you were excited to see me?"
"Of course I was! I'm always excited to see you Tails," she exclaimed.
Tails smiled warmly. "Likewise. So...the falls aren't too far from here, would you like to walk or take the X Tornado?"
"Let's walk," she answered. "After all, it is beautiful out."
"Sounds like a plan." The fox and the seedrian walked hand-in-hand through the forest. A mild breeze made the trees whisper to them along the way. After a few minutes, Tails started to hear the sound of rushing water. "We're getting close," he said.
"Oh, I can't wait!" Cosmo said. "You know, your planet is really different from mine. There's so much variety in the geography, you could visit a volcano, an ice cap, and an underwater cave all in one day!"
"Yeah, it makes for some great adventures." They arrived at a wide river and started following it downstream. Up ahead, the ground suddenly dropped, indicating the waterfall's location. "Here we are," Tails said, looking off the edge at the 250-foot drop.
"Wow, it's so...beautiful!" Cosmo exclaimed in awe.
"Yeah," Tails said, gazing at her. "Oh you mean the waterfall? I was looking at you."
"Aw, you're so sweet," Cosmo said, blushing.
Tails smiled. "Cmon let's go!" He swept Cosmo off her feet and leaped off the edge, slowly hovering down by spinning his twin tails. She giggled and wrapped her arms around him. At the bottom of the grand waterfall, a deep pond trailed off into three separate rivers that were almost completely concealed by the thick foliage.
They landed at the mouth of a river and Tails didn't hesitate to jump into the deep pond. He dove under and then resurfaced to wet his head and get used to the chilly water. "You coming in?" he called out to Cosmo impatiently but playfully.
"Yeah, I don't want to get my dress wet," she said.
A thought dawned on Tails. "You...brought a bathing suit r-right?" He blushed deeply.
"Yes. It's underneath my what I'm wearing now." She pushed off the shoulders of her dress and it fell to her ankles, revealing a light green one-piece bathing suit. She stepped out of the dress and jumped into the water with Tails. Cosmo swam up to him and pulled the fox into a tight embrace, kissing him on the lips. "Something wrong Tails? You look really red."
"I'm ok, it's just...even though we've been an item for a while now, I still get kinda nervous around you sometimes because you're so pretty," he blurted out, embarrassed.
Cosmo hugged him tighter. "Aw, you're so good to me," she sighed. "You're really cute too."
"Heh...well...thank you," Tails said, laughing nervously. "Hey, there's something I want to show you." He took her hand and led her to the bottom of the roaring waterfall. They dove underneath it and Tails propelled them through the water with jellyfish-like motions of his tails. They resurfaced in a cave behind the falls.
Cosmo noticed that some light entered through a large hole in the wall that was blocked by the waterfall, causing dim light to dance around the chamber. Another dazzling source of light was the green, glowing sea anemones that faded between different shades of green with the flowing of the water. These covered almost the entire floor which was also under about a foot of water.
"O-oh my gosh! I thought the waterfall was beautiful, this is amazing! It's like...I...I can't even think of anything to compare it to!" Cosmo exclaimed in wonderment.
"I knew you'd like it," Tails said happily. "I discovered this place a few days ago and I couldn't wait to show you." He stood up and walked to the center of the pool, where he sat down in the shallow water along with the glowing tentacles.
"Be careful Tails! Those things sting...right?"
"Actually these don't for some reason, they're just soft and squishy," he replied.
"Oh, that's neat!" She sat down next to him in the shallow water and rested her head on his shoulder. Tails turned to face her and touched his lips to her's. Tails and Cosmo both felt butterflies in their stomachs and the room got significantly warmer. They remained lip-locked, kissing passionately for what seemed like only a few minutes, but soon the sun started to set outside. They exited the cave and swam back to shore where Cosmo got dressed and Tails flew them back up to the top of the waterfall. Before heading back, Cosmo pointed out that there was an awesome view of the sunset from where they were. So they stopped to watch the sunset and when that was done, they stargazed.
"Thank you so much for taking me here Tails. You're not just the love of my life...but...you're the best friend I've ever had," Cosmo whispered.
"Cosmo...thank you so much. I feel the same exact way about you."
They then turned to face each other. Tails felt his heart speed up from how beautiful she looked in the moonlight.
I love you more than I can even understand.
